Mindy and Me

Drew some fashionable ladies tonight-one inspired by watching too much Mindy Project, one based on an outfit I would like to wear everyday. Soon it will be freezing and everyone will become giant hoodie monsters-until then, I will do my best to wear "outfits". Note that the outfit I would like to wear everyday is essentially a very subtle variation on hoodie monster-you simply swap out a giant sweater for the giant sweatshirt and add a jaunty scarf. Ta da!

Congratulations to Lillian and Jon!

Two lovely people tied the knot this past weekend and I was fortunate enough to be a part of their big day, albeit by drawing them with wine and ice cream! Congratulations to Lillian and Jon-it was a genuine pleasure to work on this piece commemorating their coupledom!

2014 Global Talent Search

Congratulations to everyone moving on to the next round of Lilla Roger's 2014 Global Talent Search! Even though I didn't make the top 50, it was still a fun challenge to enter and I'm happy with my piece. Mice and terrariums forever!

MATS June Assignment-Nautical Wall Art

Ahoy mateys! Finished the June MATS bootcamp assignment-Nautical Wall Art! The mini was ship in a bottle themed and I decided to keep that motif for my finished piece. Had a really good time with this one. On to my next and final bootcamp challenge! Huzzah!

MATS May Assignment-Editorial

Just how far behind did I get in my MATS bootcamp assignments? If you guessed woefully you'd be correct. I'd also accept tragically and/or embarrassingly as answers. THINGS HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY, GUYS. Anywho, here's my take on May's editorial assignment-a full page illustration to accompany this article entitled "How to Meditate: A Primer for People Who Don't Like to Meditate". Our mini assignment was to draw faces and people. Ta da!

Outer Space Wedding Invites!

Two of the nicest people ever are getting married-and I made them some outer space themed artwork to help spread the word! It was a fun project to work on and three pieces total-the invite, an RSVP card (one side info, other side mailing address) and a sheet of flash art that will be used for temporary tattoos to give out to guests. Hooray for love!

Super Precious Taco & Burrito Show Tonight!

Come down to 485 Cambridge St in Allston tonight at 6:30 pm for the Super Precious Tacos and Burritos show! With your $10 admission you get a Coronado Brewing Company beer and a bacon-y treat from Roxy's Grilled Cheese. More of a tequila and tacos person? Lone Star is right next door! Everyone wins! I had a really good time working on this theme. I'd wanted to do something with these old sketches for a while-the little mariachi girl was originally for a friend's bday invite, but I ended up going in a different direction and the wrap dress lady was never finished. I decided to try and incorporate her into a taco-centric piece, but wasn't really happy with how the composition was coming together and ended up completing the kneeling girl instead. Prints will be available tonight-hope to see you there!

Animystics at Light Grey Art Lab

Animystics opens this Friday, April 25th at Light Grey in Minneapolis! I'm so excited to be a part of this show-over 100 incredibly talented artists are participating and the gallery will be donating a portion of proceeds to Feline Rescue Inc, Homeward Bound Dog Rescue, and the Animal Humane Society. Here's my spirit animal contribution-"The Archer"-a six armed, three eyed fox who represents the importance of balancing action and reflection when pursuing our goals. Stop by the opening if you can-pets are welcome and there will be a quiz so you can find out which one of the animals from the show is your spirit guide! Facebook event info here.

Jello!

For February our Make Art That Sells mini assignment was to explore the wonderful world of Jello! Here are my initial sketches and a more complete board. I was initially inspired by mid century illustration and the early work of Andy Warhol and Charley Harper. Excited to find out what we're going to be creating for our final piece tomorrow!

Cuckoo Clock Progress

Here's where I'm at with my first Make Art That Sells project-a cuckoo clock phone case!
I ended up choosing my castle clock for the final project and went with a palette I don't normally use to try and flex some color muscles. Still have a ways to go to finish it up but am having a great time with this assignment. Who knew I could make amends with purple, my color nemesis?!

Cuckoo Round Two

More cuckoo sketches for the February Make Art That Sells Bootcamp mini assignment! In my last batch of sketches I tried to keep my doodling loose and explore some different media and mark making. With this round I had a theme and story in mind for each clock. For the first one I was thinking of a love story/musical/alps motif. Like Sound of Music, but with less nuns. The second revolves around a story of a Bavarian pretzel factory, run by a short tempered but benevolent cuckoo bird foreman. The clock on the far right is the clock I would've wanted as a kid...and still sort of want today. Looking forward to the main assignment-can't wait to see what other people come up with!

Bootcamp Kicks Off!

You guys I'm doing so many burpees. And just ran up the stairs of the Harvard Coliseum like, 800 times. Easily.* I also enrolled in Lilla Rogers "Make Art That Sells" Bootcamp! I'd been looking to add some new energy to my portfolio and push myself creatively with a group and MATS seemed like perfect match. The class kicked off this week with our first mini assignment-cuckoo clocks! I am so excited to be part of such a talented community and this week have been happily exploring the world of folk art, clocks, woodland creatures and pretzels. I feel stronger and more toned than I have in weeks and I didn't even have to pick up a kettlebell once.

*No I didn't. It's just that bootcamp makes me think of crossfit. Which makes me want to lie on the floor.

Wedding Octopi

I made some signage for my friends' wedding-a couple of dapper octopi!
They added a festive undersea themed touch to the restrooms. Yay marriage!
