Super Precious & Silver Screen Society!

Two fun pieces for the end of summer-first a little something for the Super Precious Road Trips show commemorating Shag: The Movie, or, as I like to call it, the best movie in the entire universe. Also did this piece for the Silver Screen Society's NeverEnding Story show. Poor, poor Artax.

Battle Royale-Me VS. Acrylic Paint

I've been working on some new deck paintings lately for an upcoming show...and boy howdy that there painting an actual physical object sure is different than using the 'ol computron. I started with the bam bam/misfits girl piece first and like it despite wanting to throw it out the window about half way through due to frustration/impatience. With the flowers and skulls piece, I used masking tape and wax paper to mask out shapes and add shading. Pretty happy with how it turned out and will be using that technique on the next deck. But let's get to the most important picture in this whole post. LOOK AT THE ADORABLE LUNCH I ATE TODAY!

Crazy Gods and Goddesses

The endless Boston winter is in still holding on with an icy, uncaring grip. I have been wearing my bean boots everyday since November. When. Will. It. End. In the meantime here are some k-razzy gods and goddesses I came up with for a new project at work.

I love the library and it loves me. We're going to be together forever.

Spin doodles

I love spin class. It makes me feel like my face is literally on fire, but I love it. I also love people watching in class. Some people have the jaded "I do this every other day" look on their face and some people look like they're going to throw up, but in general everybody takes riding a stationary bike to trance remixes of Coldplay songs really, really seriously. And I think that's pretty great.

Everything That Creeps! opens tonight at The Lincoln Arts Project

Come out to LAP at 289 Moody St in Waltham tonight from 7-10pm for the opening of Everything That Creeps! Finished B-Day invite

Finished my friend's birthday invite! Note the strategically blurred address. Then this afternoon I'm off to Rochester for some quality time with my parents. Hip hip HOO-RAY!

Happy Birthday!

I've been at my new job for almost five months now! It has been a total game changer in terms of how I feel about work and myself. Unfortunately, the new gainfully employed me has a lot less free time and thus, I haven't been making much personal work. Why, why, why is it so hard to balance a job and art making? Needless to say I am super excited to work on a birthday invite for a friend of mine. It combines many of my favorite things: skulls, hand drawn type and margaritas. Happy Birthday to everyone!

Two New Recipes

I wanted to start a food blog until I freaked myself out by realizing that there are approximately 100 bajillion food blogs on the internet, and while I love taking food pics with my phone, I don't know if I'm ready to get into the ring in terms of taking really nice recipe shots. I am thankful there are people who do, I just don't know if that's really in my thing. Guess what is my thing? Drawing things with eyes and and putting arms and legs on them. So this blog will stay primarily my arts, farts and crafts and my new blog, The Curious Fry Pan will be food oriented with food-centric illustrations.

Progress

When you're not in art school and don't have someone keeping track of how your Pink Floyd/cheap wine fueled self portraits are coming along it can be hard to feel like you're making any artistic progress. While working on a new drawing tonight I came across a l'il digital piece I did about two years ago and impressed myself. I nodded thoughtfully and said "keep going in that direction".
Chin up, designy/drawy people everywhere. You're getting better all the time!

Fly Over The City Snow Picnic tonight at Western Front

After you go to Ladyfest at the Washington St Art Center you should head over to the Western Front for a music/art show hosted by Fly Over The City. Subclinix, Double Nines and Skimask are playing and you can check out new work by Nick McEvoy, Jen Kanis, Jen O'Brien, Coco Roy-Rodgers, Jeff Poot, Rachel Rizzo, Greg Letarte, Brian Connolly, Kevin Porter, Carolyn Lewenberg, Ellie Gill and me. Ladyfest Boston!

I have officially accepted that it is no longer "the holiday season". How have I coped with this lack of Silk Nog and good cheer? By making art for Ladyfest, that's how. Each piece is inspired by a song I love and these wood panels my friend Julie gave me. Digital on wood 8 x 8". Come check out the Adventures Close to Home show on Friday, Jan. 13th from 7-11pm at the WSAC and support awesome people and an awesome cause.
