Friends, Bob & Timmy's, Horseneck Beach, Tortilla Flats, Snickers Ice Cream bars, and I went fishing. I used Rollip to filter these photos. See you later, one crazy summer.
Last night some friends and I checked out the Charles LeDray show at the ICA and it was the craziest and coolest thing ever. If you were ever into collecting minitures as a kid (aka if you are female) it is particularly mind blowing although anybody will be impressed by LeDray's talent. There are literally thousands of tiny handmade pieces of clothing and accessories and every detail is spot on. Out of the entire show there are only three found objects, which means when you're looking at the painstakingly recreated clothing stores LeDray made everything from the dust covered drop ceiling to the rows and rows of pint sized hangers. Made some progress on my most recent cut paper piece. Still have approximately one million little flowers and skulls to paint and cut. AIEEEEEEE!!!! Then tonight, PEE WEE at the Brattle!!!!
The last time I was in Chicago I was looking for some Mike Giant books but ended up getting Tattoo Mystique-The Art and World of Angelique Houtkamp instead. Check it out! Also the staff at Quimbys was super nice and helpful. Two thumbs up. Here's a flash/tattoo inspired lady.
Inspired in part by The Rolling Stones, my friend Karina's favorite color palette, wedding season, fascinators and my earlier ghostwords piece...soon to be painted cut and pieced together.
The first issue of Paper Machete is here! I'm so stoked to be part of this awesome magazine that has brought together so many amazing and talented people. Hi-fives all around and a big thank you to Jason for including me in the first issue. You can see a preview of what's inside here. Ask me if you're interested in getting a copy.
Experimented with a new combo of digital and traditional for this test-going to make it into a finished piece. WITH SOMETHING IN THE WATER. And the water won't be a photo. Also, this is the coolest thing I got from Quimby's this past weekend in Chicago. Batforum. Prepare to pee your pants. Unless you don't think the idea of bats talking about art is funny. I also saw Fantastic Mr. Fox. I hadn't cause I was all "whatever. how good can it be?" The answer is really "cussing" good.
I picked up Valley of the Dolls from the infamous free table at work. I haven't ready any of it yet but it's pink and about drug abuse so I'm sure it's going to be a super read. Here's a detail of a piece I'm working on that's along the same lines.
Look-more sketches of girls! Also a big thank you to all the people who came out to the second "Get Your Freak On!" opening at Space 242 last Friday. The artist talk for the show is May 21st from 7-8pm. For more info got to http://www.space242.com/.
Wow. I've really taken a break from this haven't I? I've been busy, I swear! I went to Chicago! Tonight I'll be at Space242 for the 2nd opening of Get Your Freak On! Be there! Free adult beverages! 242 E. Berkeley St 2nd Floor 6-8pm get there on time because they literally kick everyone out at 8. xoxo-Amanda
Sometimes you hate things for the wrong reasons. Like, I'm not talking about the Starlite Lounge, but maybe I am. And then one day you accept it for what it is-a place to watch your friends eat corndogs and listen to 90's hip hop. My bad.
R.F. O'Sullivan's has amazing burgers, it's true. But their best kept secret was their veggie burgers. They were handmade and they were amazing. And then one day they were gone. I just wish I knew what I did to push them away, you know? I imagine bumping into them on the street and practice what I would say. In the end I'd probably just play it cool, even though they were the only veggie burgers I ever truly loved.
Sometimes the free table at work has really amazing things. Like the copy of Sundown I found on VHS. Or Dustin Diamond's memoir "Behind the Bell". My friend found this beat up copy of Beverly Cleary's "Sister of the Bride" and though it smells not unlike death, I really like the illustrations by Beth and Joe Krush. Also, breaking news-it stopped raining.
I picked up some sepia brush pens a while ago. Here's some stuff I did with them while thinking about that bearded lady painting I finished recently. Now off to the square with Jordo. Woot.
OMGIT'SNICEOUTSIDE. And I no longer feel like I have demons in my stomach! YESSSSS. Here are some things I like: iced coffee! hilarious garage rock video! everything bagel! bunnies! hearts!
I skipped a day but it was only because I felt like I was getting punched in the gut constantly yesterday. Which incidentally made me think of death. And skulls.
Inspired by Janice from the muppets and this awful show. Since my mystery cable went away I have been redefining what I consider acceptable television entertainment, but I'm not that desperate CW. Geez.
Once upon a time I said I was going to do a sketch everyday and post it on the interwebs. And now, I think I might actually do it. I've already set the bar really, really high with this meaningful piece I created just last night. It's about the human condition, obviously.
