Happy Birthday!

I've been at my new job for almost five months now! It has been a total game changer in terms of how I feel about work and myself. Unfortunately, the new gainfully employed me has a lot less free time and thus, I haven't been making much personal work. Why, why, why is it so hard to balance a job and art making? Needless to say I am super excited to work on a birthday invite for a friend of mine. It combines many of my favorite things: skulls, hand drawn type and margaritas. Happy Birthday to everyone!

I wanted to start a food blog until I freaked myself out by realizing that there are approximately 100 bajillion food blogs on the internet, and while I love taking food pics with my phone, I don't know if I'm ready to get into the ring in terms of taking really nice recipe shots. I am thankful there are people who do, I just don't know if that's really in my thing. Guess what is my thing? Drawing things with eyes and and putting arms and legs on them. So this blog will stay primarily my arts, farts and crafts and my new blog, The Curious Fry Pan will be food oriented with food-centric illustrations.

Progress

When you're not in art school and don't have someone keeping track of how your Pink Floyd/cheap wine fueled self portraits are coming along it can be hard to feel like you're making any artistic progress. While working on a new drawing tonight I came across a l'il digital piece I did about two years ago and impressed myself. I nodded thoughtfully and said "keep going in that direction".
Chin up, designy/drawy people everywhere. You're getting better all the time!

Food Glorious Food

I've been working on a new blog lately: The Curious Fry Pan! It's going to be about snacks and cooking and stuff! Coming to an internet near you soon!

Ladyfest Boston!

I have officially accepted that it is no longer "the holiday season". How have I coped with this lack of Silk Nog and good cheer? By making art for Ladyfest, that's how. Each piece is inspired by a song I love and these wood panels my friend Julie gave me. Digital on wood 8 x 8". Come check out the Adventures Close to Home show on Friday, Jan. 13th from 7-11pm at the WSAC and support awesome people and an awesome cause. The Washington Street Art Center is located at 321 Somerville Ave. Somerville, MA 02143.

Please visit our website for more information about Ladyfest and the other benefits that we are planning:

My initial inspiration for my Happy Hour work was my love of rock posters. I've always been a fan of poster design superstars like Aesthetic Apparatus, Art Chantry, The Little Friends of Printmaking, Miss Amy Jo, Eye Noise, Print Mafia and Methane Studios. Looking for a holiday present for someone you know who appreciates rock and art stuff? Check out 1975's shop site for prints from my show. Or if you're shopping for me, I'd like one or all of the above posters. Thanks, you're the best!

White Russian

I'm in the final week of getting things ready for my Happy Hour show at 1975 in sweet, sweet Rochester NY. The show opens on Nov. 12th and will be up 'til Jan. 28th. You should so totally come. Here's my l'il White Russian piece for the show-it'll be in good cocktail company with a mint julep, a mai tai and another mystery drink.

Happy Hour Posters 1

Here's a couple of my posters for the "Happy Hour" show I'm having at 1975 in Ra Cha Cha this fall. Concentrating on making things in the style of show fliers and cocktail/alcohol themed pieces. I'm really excited to see everything coming together! Also, speaking of Rochester, I went to the grand opening of the Northborough Wegmans today and it was insane. I think I bought some groceries, but really can't be sure.

BY THE PALE MOONLIGHT
Ghosts, Ghouls, and other Creatures of the Night

1975 x Surface Salon’s Three Year Anniversary show.
October 8 – November 5, 2011
Opening Night: Saturday, October 8, 2011, from 7-10pm

It’s been three AWESOME years since 1975 and Surface first partnered up, and we can’t just contain the party to the old space. We’re going to kick off our next year by welcoming a new art space into our family, and this one is a doozy!

To make it even more special, we’ve reached out to an INCREDIBLE roster of talented artists to help us make this show even more memorable than our other shows.

The show will be on the third floor above Flour City Bakery, in Rochester’s brand new art space (whose name will be revealed that night), located in the Rochester Public Market, 280 Union St. North, Rochester, NY 14609.
